Year 1 Teacher in Kōwhai Āwhina
Kia ora, Tēnā koutou,
My name is Parag. I am an experienced, enthusiastic and an inquisitive teacher, and a keen learner. I was born in Yemen, evacuated to India, and moved to London, where I spent most of my formative years (28 winters!). I qualified as a Primary Teacher (B.Ed. Hons. with focus on Early Years education) at Greenwich University in 1992. My family and I came to New Zealand 20 years ago, and since then, we never looked back. The land and the people of Aotearoa are awesome!
I have experience in engineering, youth and community work, organic gardening and dairy farming.
My passion is in working with children in an integrated and holistic way, educating the 'head, heart and hands' (thinking, feeling and doing) to empower children on their learning journey. I have experience working with Special Educational Needs children, with severe emotional, behaviour and communication difficulties in UK and NZ schools. I am trained and experienced in Rudolf Steiner pedagogy - a natural, unhurried, artistic, creative and an experiential education. I adopt a curative approach to education, which is an interdisciplinary practise in providing holistic and therapeutic support to children.
I am very excited and grateful to be working with the children and colleagues in the Kowhai Awhina team. I am looking forward to meeting you all.
