Room 4 Planting a Herb Garden


In these pictures we did herb gardening and planting flowers and veggies.

Next term we'll be cooking the veggies.



We did some research about bugs:


How to keep the bug away from eating the plants.

To keep bugs away from your garden you need to crush eggshells underneath the plants that are getting eaten then they will go away there is other things you can do for example you can make a stink such as mint,fennel,catnip,basil and lemongrass are natural deterrents for garden pests. Insects that help Gardens There's an army of beneficial insects willing to help your cause, should you wish it. Parasitic wasps, hoverflies, bees, bumble bees and ladybirds, praying mantis, spiders, dragonflies, assassin bugs, lacewings, various beetles, frogs and earwigs. All the other bugs you want to keep away from your garden.there is over 80,000 species of edible plants over the whole world.90 percent of the foods humans eat come from just 30 plants.70,000 plant species are utilised for medicine.If you add baking soda to tomato it makes them sweeter. Most vegetables need warm weather to grow. Some vegetables, like spinach, lettuce, carrots and turnips, can grow in cold weather. Vegetable plants develop flowers and form seeds if you let them. We usually eat them before they get the chance to make flowers.


We have installed bee hives in Helensville Primary school. On the bottom field it is fenced in so no children will go ahead and annoy them because.You’ve managed your honey bee colonies all spring and summer with no problem. Now and then an aggressive guard warned you off, but in general the bees were docile.
