School Values

It is with a great deal of pride and excitement that the school shares a significant milestone in our journey. Over the past few years, we have been working quietly behind the scenes to ensure that the "heart" of our school, our core values, truly reflects who we are today and where we want to go tomorrow.

This hasn't been an overnight shift; it has been a journey many years in the making. Led by our dedicated Tū Maia Team (formerly known as our PB4L team - Positive Behaviour For Learning), this process has involved deep reflection on what makes our school community unique.

I want to be clear, we haven’t "thrown out" our previous values. Instead, they have evolved. Think of it as a tree growing; the roots remain the same, but the branches have reached out in new directions.

This evolution was sparked directly by you. In 2023, we asked for your "voice" regarding our 2024–2025 Strategic Plan. We looked at the feedback from parents, whānau, students, and staff, and the themes were incredibly consistent. You told us what mattered most, and those common threads have now been woven into our three evolved school values.

Our Evolved Values

These three pillars will now guide how we teach, how we play, and how we grow together:

Celebrating Success: Tū Maia Hui

You will see these values in action immediately. They are now the foundation of our Tū Maia Whole School Hui, held every second Monday.

From now on, the certificates awarded during these assemblies will explicitly celebrate students who have demonstrated Kotahitanga, Whanaungatanga, or Manaakitanga in the classroom, out on the playground and within the community. It’s a wonderful way for us to acknowledge what our students bring to school every day.

Thank you for being part of this journey and for providing the feedback that helped us reach this point. We are excited to see these values breathe new life into our school culture. We will be updating our school signage to reflect these changes.
